THE STORY WOOD SENSORY ROOM
The sensory room at Story Wood School is a specially designed room which combines a range of different stimuli to help our children to develop and engage their senses. These include lights, colours, sounds, sensory soft play objects and aromas all within a safe environment that allows the children to explore and interact without risk.
HOW IS THE SENSORY ROOM USED?
The sensory room is used throughout the week by a range of different children and professionals. These include a play therapist, speech and language therapist, teachers, teaching assistants and the older pupils themselves who run lunch time clubs supporting each other.
It is a great space for our children to enjoy story time, imaginative play or some quiet time to reflect on day to day issues.
We have found this special resource most helpful within our school: it has enhanced the children’s learning through play and has helped to improve their balance and movement. In addition to this, it has improved children’s behaviour too. The sensory room is a space that we use on a day to day basis and the children enjoy using it as well!
