Our ethos is to provide children with new learning opportunities in the outdoor environment, in order to enhance their overall well-being and enabling them to build confidence and self-esteem with encouragement and support to challenge themselves to reach their full potential.
Forest Schools builds on a child’s motivation and positive attitude towards learning, offering them the opportunities to take risks, make choices and initiate learning for themselves.
Forest School is about exploring and experiencing the natural environment though practical activities. The children go out in all weathers, all year round, exploring and learning from the seasons and environmental changes. As a result appropriate clothing will be provided.
One of the principles of Forest School is to promote environmental awareness. The children are taught to respect and be responsible for the world around them.
Forest School- Spring Term
We have lots of exciting things planned during our sessions in Story Wood this term.
So watch this space for information and photos of what we have been up to!
09.01.17
During our 1st Forest School session the children became familiar with the rules and routines of being down in the wood.
This also involved playing lots of games including 1,2,3 where are you..?
14.02.17
This week we imagined that we were Kings and Queens of Story Wood. We discussed why Story Wood is important to us and what we can do to look after it.
However, one thing was missing... every King and Queen must have a crown! So we made our own woodland crowns using natural materials from the wood.
Did you know that fairies live in Story Wood?
Well you do now!
In fact the wood is full of magic! Therefore, we thought we would make our own magic woodland wands.
Parent Morning- 27.03.17
Thank you to the parents who attended the final Forest School session before we break up for Easter.
We hope that you enjoyed it as much as the children did!
Clay Faces
Did you know at night the trees come alive?
This morning we thought about what trees would look like if they had a face.
Using woodland materials we created our own clay faces- they ranged from a princess to a rabbit.
The children certainly used their imagination to create some fantastic faces!
