Impact of spending

In 2016/17 the total allocation for Story Wood was £146,520 – 111 pupils; 54% of pupils. There was also an additional funding of approximately £9,800 for pupil premium pupils attending our Early Years Unit.

Early Years premium pupils received additional speech therapy, talkboost, playclub and WELCOMM interventions along with small group focused interventions to promote their speaking and listening skills alongside personal, social and emotional skills. Pupils attended forest school sessions throughout the year to enhance their confidence and self-esteem. Accelerated progress was evidenced from pupil’s baseline assessment across the strands for both areas of learning. A maths intervention was delivered in small groups to focus on gaps in numbers. The percentage of pupils achieving a good level of development in Reception increased by 4% compared to 2016.

In KS1 pupils attended forest school sessions and took part in a pirate sleep over. They attended maths and English interventions after school, received additional support with phonics and joined in with focused lunch time clubs delivered by teachers and teaching assistants.

In KS2 pupils received tuition for reading, writing and maths; targeting gaps identified. Project X and fresh start interventions were delivered to support with reading, writing, spellings and phonics. All pupils made progress and increased their reading age by the end of each intervention. They took part in a range of sports and music clubs, attended a residential and also received forest school intervention.

Pastoral support including group activities and play therapy supported individual pupils with their readiness to learning.

We are proud of all our pupil premium funded pupils in their achievement across all three subjects.

We recognise that Maths is an area to continue to develop across both KS1 & KS2 and this has been built into our School Development Plan (SDP) and future planning for school improvement.
