Topic

Our topic for Spring term is called ‘Disaster, in which we will be learning about earthquakes, volcanoes and other natural disasters around the world. This topic is heavily geography-based and the children will be creating their own volcano collage, painting an impressionist version of an erupting volcano and researching into various natural phenomena (past and present).

Class information

PE - Our PE days are Monday and every other Thursday, but please have your PE kit in school every day in case we have an extra chance to do PE.

Home Reading – Remember the expectation is that children should be reading as much as possible but the minimum is 40 minutes. For each time children read (after having read for 40 minutes) they will receive a raffle ticket and will be entered into the Story Wood Reading Raffle which is drawn every Friday in Celebration Assembly. The more children read, the more tickets they will receive and the more chance they have of winning! So please read at home with your child as often as possible, let them read by themselves or to a sibling and make a note in their planner and sign it! Please bring it in on Mondays.

Home Learning – Home-learning is always given out every Monday in Y6 using the CGP homework books. This is to ensure children have the time to look and ask for help if needed before the hand-in date. It must be returned by the following Monday so that it can be marked and sent back to you. Please look after these as they will be used all year.

Uniform Please make sure your child’s uniform, PE kit and coat is clearly labelled. Jewellery is not allowed in school except for simple stud earrings which must be covered over with a plaster or removed during PE.
