Topic

Our topic for Autumn term is called ‘Rule Britannia’, in which we will be learning about the Vikings, their homelands and why they wanted to leave and reasons for making their settlements in different parts of Britain. We will be studying Viking beliefs about Gods, what their diet consisted of and artefacts that have been discovered subsequently, exploring what these tell us about Viking life. We will be visiting Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery (02.10.17) for a workshop so that we can experience artefacts for ourselves first-hand.

Class information

PE - Our PE days are Monday and every other Thursday, but please have your PE kit in school every day in case we have an extra chance to do PE.

Home Reading – Remember the expectation is that children should be reading as much as possible but the minimum is 40 minutes. For each time children read (after having read for 40 minutes) they will receive a raffle ticket and will be entered into the Story Wood Reading Raffle which is drawn every Friday in Celebration Assembly. The more children read, the more tickets they will receive and the more chance they have of winning! So please read at home with your child as often as possible, let them read by themselves or to a sibling and make a note in their planner and sign it! Please bring it in on Mondays.

Home Learning – Home-learning is always given out every Wednesday using the CGP homework books. It must be returned by the following Monday so that it can be marked and sent back to you. Please look after these as they will be used all year.

Uniform Please make sure your child’s uniform, PE kit and coat is clearly labelled. Jewellery is not allowed in school except for simple stud earrings.
