We have been putting our learning into practice through playing in our kitchen.
To help us subitise and recognise amounts quickly, we have made patterns using 5 counters. Look at all the different patterns we have made!
Today we have been counting beyond 5 and checking to see if our partner has more or fewer counters to compare amounts.
We have used Hungarian Counting frames, five frames and cubes to count to 5. Today we have matched our amounts to the numerals.
We have made counting sticks in our forest school and counted objects in our outdoor learning space. We then applied this to count to 5 in different ways.
Locke have been reading the Monkey Puzzle story and have shown their understanding by drawing it out in a story map.
We have been counting accurately to 5 in our Mastering Number lessons and making AB patterns in our daily sessions. We used a range of resources to show this including planting pansies in an AB pattern and our outside environment to count 5!
The children have planted some herbs and some bulbs today in our outside area. Let’s hope the foxes don’t dig them up!
We have also been out in the woods organising and sorting items by size.

Today we have been sorting objects in the woods.
First we found items from the woods that were the same or different, then we sorted objects by shape and colour!

Week 1
Finding, Matching and Sorting.
Over the first few days we have been out in the woods and working hard in our class room, finding similarities and differences. We have been comparing items by size and colour and thinking what makes them different or the same. Here are some pictures of us exploring this concept.
