Story Wood School "Inspiring Minds to Universally Succeed" "inspirati omnia impetramus"

Music

Music is taught across school through practical experiences. We provide a range of music lessons for children across our school from Y1-6. This includes specialist teachers being bought in from the Music Service to teach brass and violin. We believe this develops the whole child and their ‘stickability’ as they learn about music, rhythm and performance through learning to play a musical instrument.

The school uses Charanga across all year groups (with the exception of Y4). All Year 4 pupils take part in the Wider Opportunities programme and learn to play a brass instrument, which they have the option to continue to play into Y5 & Y6. Children also have the opportunity to visit Symphony Hall and take part in Music concerts.

Parents are also invite into school termly to share in our whole school celebration of music.

As a result of our music curriculum the school achieved Music Mark which is awarded by the Birmingham Music Service.
