Sports and PE is an important part of school life at Story Wood.
Our PE curriculum is strengthened by the extra opportunities pupils have to play sport throughout the day at school. This includes adult led activities to play at break and lunch.
Furthermore, pupils have the opportunity to develop their sports skills at a variety of clubs across the school year.
Most recently, this has included
We have also provided opportunities for some pupils to develop the skills learnt in lessons at after school clubs. This has helped to embed and master the basic skills and for the children to grow in confidence. At this club pupils have focused on key sports concepts such as balance, control, strength and fitness.
As an inclusive school we have actively encouraged girls football with after school clubs for girls in KS2. We will be taking part in the national Girls Football Day in March, providing further opportunities for girls to participate fully in footballing activities. It has been amazing to see an increased number girls taking part in football at lunchtimes as a result of this club.
As part of our breakfast provision, we also run a popular sports club where pupils are able to come and play a range of sports such as table tennis, badminton, handball and dodgeball. This has helped to increase participation in sport and has improved the amount of time our pupils are active in the day.
We aim to rotate the pupils and classes involved in sports after school clubs and provide a range of sports and games.
We also have a list of local sports clubs where our pupils can go and develop their love for sport outside of school hours. Please speak to Mr Pretty if you would like more information about this.
