Descartes (year 1) have been learning about hand washing in their PSHE lessons. We have discussed the importance of getting rid of the germs on our hands.

This week in History, we have been examining historical photographs of our school. We have explored what has changed over time and what has remained the same.

Descartes have been creating their own art sculptures, they have been inspired by Andy Goldsworthy!

Descartes enjoyed their local walk, they followed their map looking for key features. We spotted the churches, the vets, shops and talked about the different types of houses.

We have now introduced the purple consolidation pen in our dictated sentences. The children have enjoyed correcting any errors and rewriting their sentences to help build fluency.

This term in computing we have been learning all about algorithms. The children were very excited to create their own algorithms based on crazy characters.

We have been learning all about animals in our science unit. The children fully enjoyed exploring the real life size of animals during our group reading lesson.

World Mental Health 

This week the children are learning about their mental health. This is in support with @YoungMindsUK. The children have been learning about the strategies that they can use if they feel sad or worried.

Descartes have written their first character description. We are writing with purpose and that purpose is reading their work to the Reception children. The children enjoyed using adjectives to make their sentences more engaging.

Descartes have been exploring their five senses in science. The children had the opportunity to taste the fruit, smell the perfume, guess the musical instrument and guess the soft object! We also discussed which body part helps us with our 5 senses.

In Geography this week, we have been exploring maps. The children went on a quest around school to locate the stars on the map. They were fantastic using directional language!
